the work is unending, with no rest in sight — especially when the sewers of sootopolis city continue to spill rats into its streets.

[break][break] but jayden is not one to disobey orders, even if declan walsh's command knots his insides like a serpent coiling tightly around his heart.

[break][break] hatred bleeds. hatred bleeds. hatred bleeds.

[break][break] "hey," he says, as he waits in the med bay, the result of the latest trials with project infinity. he'd agreed long ago to give his body to science — first to Lulu Flint for her dream study, then to mint frost for his avatarship. this was nothing new. more than that, especially with his wounds from the battle in sootopolis, it was imperative that he take care of himself too. also a promise he made to fern delaney.

[break][break] when his command is met with silence, however, annoyance flickers in his gaze. this is no time to dawdle, not when there is so much work to be done. he pulls himself up from the bed and towards the doorway, dragging his IV pole alongside him. a bag of red fluid hangs from it, as the saline drips into his arm.

[break][break] "hey - you," he says, pointing to the nearest person. likely a grunt made to do Lulu Flint or Naomi Sato's bidding. "finish dressing my wounds. time is of the essence."

"You're out of the room for one day and not only do you get injured yourself but also get another one stabbed..."

The old medic comments clearly annoyed having to deal with this nonsense in which Raziel apologizes for as the medic grumbles a few things, head going down more as he hears Beckett's name among the curses but he continues to say nothing. Either way he is told to wait as he has patients before him that he needs to deal with before he moves on to another giving him 'I'll deal with you later' grumble as he does as told and waits for his evaluation to update his physical therapy. [break][break]

A call is heard but he ignores it at first as its not like he is a worker there. Least until someone actually walks out of a door and seems to demand him, as there is no one else around. Raziel points to himself confused but it seems the other is not giving him the option to say no. Lucky for both of them he actually knows how. "Umm sure?" he replies as he tries looking around for the medic from before but they're already off having to deal with someone else who was injured.[break][break]

He goes to the room the white haired man came from and his good eye can't help but narrow as they look familiar but he can't pinpoint from where. "Umm I'm no medic but I know how to do what you're asking if you'd like?" he figures he'll ask to make sure that the person even wanted some random grunt to help him. Slightly forgetting just how little he could use his right hand.

whatever thoughts of urgency are on his mind dissipate like mist in the morning sun.

At his name he can't help but tilt his head at the other. Yet anther who seemed to know his name while he himself has no reconition. His first thought is his brother but with the blue eyes and the voice not matching in the slightest he throws that out the window. [break][break]

With the blood dripping he is put on more alert to the other's wounds, "Uhh sir we should really get that fix," he offers before trying to coax the other into the room before telling his bulbasaur to try and get the medic's attention. [break][break]

Once in the room he would look for something to actually clean it with, "Sorry to ask but I have had some memory issues, but since you know me just who are you?"

something clatters outside, the sound of the rest of the medical staff as they attend to several others outside. the injured, the deceased, the climbing fatalities that are no doubt a product of war.

[break][break] but it does not matter how many people are outside. four, five, six. each second ticks by in his head, as he stares into the ruby gaze of a boy that seems straight like a ghost from his childhood.

[break][break] jayden's own voice feels hollow as he speaks:

[break][break] "admin cross," he corrects, though his words hold none of the venom that they normally would. the blood drips onto pavement. "jayden cross."

[break][break] THEO BECKETT had reminded him and the rest of the upper brass that it would take some time getting used to — after all, the method used on the other man was imperfect at best. it would take a while for him to make accommodations.

[break][break] but no one had told him that it would be him who would need a moment to catch his breath.

[break][break] offering his hand out for the other to tend to, jayden stares numbly.

Eyes widen at the familiar name, the scared faced grunt taking a moment to try and take in the other's features and tried to replay the voice in his head for a bit. The name was something he knew but the face was not crossing properly, yet he gets slightly closer before his eyes widen in recognition, "Oh wow it really is you isn't it?" the confusion was now gone in favor for a small smile. Most of this place was filled with so much he didn't know so it was nice to see another familiar face besides THEO BECKETT's and @cillian's. "I know Theo mentioned your name with the admins and such but actually seeing you that's... that's..." he trails off as he wasn't sure what the word he was looking for. [break][break]

Seems like everyone was moving up in the world, while he was stuck years in the past. [break][break]

Raziel keeps his smile though as he tries to avoid thinking too deeply into it as he begins to clean the other's wound with his one good hand. "Besides waking up here in the ship? Last I recall was the last battle in Johto and arguing with my dad but the battle and everything after that is a blur or just nothing at all," he comments before showing off his scared hand as well as the semi-faded lichtenberg figures that covered his arm. [break][break]

"Theo told me I was struck by a thunder by one of the leaguers during the war when they found out that I had been an undercover Rocket this whole time," Raziel goes on to explain the story of what he has come to believe as truth. "The medic says it has defiantly messed with my head, they're not sure if anything will come back"

"that's...?" jayden prods, unable to help himself, an almost childish curiosity peeking through. it was the one thing that he and Raziel Beckett had shared as kids, apart from the thing that to the work ethic that bound him to people like Asriel Pryde.

[break][break] a head tilts as he considers the rest of the others words.

[break][break] "i see."

[break][break] he wonders how much of this is true, how much if it could be relied on. he immediately thinks of Rowan Wrynn, which brings him again to the same advice that he gave the former.

[break][break] "you should see neon," he says, voice quiet. "he might be able to help you sort out your memories. he's galarian articuno's chosen."

[break][break] another pause stretches between, far too long and far too stiff and he feels a sudden, desperate urge to call Asriel Pryde. asriel would know what to say or do. did asriel know his brother had survived?

The younger man just shrugs at the prodding not entirely sure how to express it all. This entire week was full of changes and yet things that remained the same, as he knew these people. Gav-Cillian, Theo, Jayden yet all of them were different, older and in higher places in which, with the exception of Theo, he didn't think people like them could ever see. "I don't know unbelievable, prodigious? Pick your poison," he jokes with a small smile though it's quick to fade to some uncertainty at the mention of one of the admins.[break][break]

"What's with the weird code names for the Admins? I don't recall that back from Kanto," he questions finding the differences odd between the two regions organizations. "though if this person can probably help with the memory thing I might see them eventually," his shoulders can't help but tense a bit now that he was done cleaning and now looking for some gauze, "But if I'm being honest, and this stays between us okay?" he questions the other with a bit of a pleading expression, "I.... I don't really want to remember... least not right now."[break][break]

Once more any silence sort of just goes over his head as he is slightly struggling with the gauze as his right hand is still a struggle to use. Though he gives the other a simple 'you're kidding me' kind of stare. "Jayden you're hair went from black to white, and your eyes purple to blue you also have kind of what Merlino... no uhhhhh Quinn," he is quick to correct himself but its clear he's struggling after going with one name for so long. "has going on... the two of you carry yourselves very differently"

"unbelievable? prodigious?" jayden blinked. those had never been words that he'd considered to describe himself. "is that really what you think?"

[break][break] those were words better to describe people like Asriel Pryde.

[break][break] for him, the facts of his position were just conveniences — he had simply just been at the right place at the right time. he had turned out this way, not because of choices of his own making, but because of a predestined fate that had been aligned for him since birth.

[break][break] at least that was what he had always thought.

[break][break] but now...

[break][break] glimmers of the alternatives that he'd seen with illeana reyes flickered through his memory, combined with the twisted future that dmitri had forced into fruition.

[break][break] "the code names? ah." neon. yoru. blackbird. he supposed that Raziel Beckett was right. it wasn't really a thing that they'd had to use back in the day. at most, people harbored fake names for the sake of certain missions, but never aliases that were meant to cover one's own past. "it's a hoenn contingency — part of the nature of breaking into a new region, i suppose. several members still hide their identities within our own ranks. neon is one of them."

[break][break] of course, jayden knew mint frost's identity. but that didn't meant that the lower brass did. in fact, jayden was pretty sure that the man kept such things hidden for a reason. similar with BARNABY FINCH.

[break][break] how ironic that fate would tie together two twisted birds on a wire.

[break][break] at the mention of his appearance change, jayden blinks again. it seems - for whatever reason - he is genuinely surprised to hear the reminder. white hair drips in front of him, and he pulls at the fringes of his bangs, tugging one before him.

[break][break] "ah... i suppose that's true."

[break][break] knox prescott had the same thing once, hadn't he?

[break][break] "it's a consequence of my bond with chien pao," he replied. "ah.. i suppose you wouldn't know about that either."

[break][break] at the mention of it's name, the ruinous beast suddenly manifested. or perhaps it had been there all along. but a sudden wave of HATRED and RESENTMENT filled the small space in which both men inhabited, a certain but inevitable pull that would undoubtedly drag Raziel Beckett in it's loathesome vortex. in the darkness, a pair of sapphire jewels glimmered — scorching-hot as they pierced the other man.

[break][break] judging. critical. doubtful.

[break][break] would this be someone that approved of Raziel Beckett? as it did with Chu-e Choi. or would the beast resent this half-person too, the way that it resented those like fern delaney?

[break][break] would this version of razz, in the hear and now, be a thing of kindness for a man like jayden cross — or would he, burdened by the same fate as his chosen brother, hurt him?

"Do you think I would lie to you with a compliment?" raziel answers back with a question of his own. The young man finding some trouble with finishing the wrapping with his hand still struggling to move properly. Raziel having to hold one end with his wrist as he used his good hand to secure the gauze. [Break][break]

He looks confused on the new information with admins keeping their identity hidden even from their own. Raziel thinking about it for a moment before questioning, "Wait only from the low ranks right? Surely the upper management knows?" he can't help but ask because that seemed risky otherwise.

At the mention of the bond he doesn't recognize it with avatarship at first. The whole thing being a new concept before the ice beast suddenly shows up and Raziel can't help but jump back in panic at it's sudden appearance. His Bulbasaur was quick to come between the other's patron and it's trainer. As if they could protect him, though it couldn't protect him from this sudden feel of hate in him. [Break][break]

Hating how he had to play catch up with his memories gone. Hating the feeling of having been left behind while left and right those he once knew at his level had left him behind in the dust. Raziel closes his one good eye to try and stop the stare, to stop these feelings as Jayden ask him questions. [Break][break]

Was the other not feeling this change too? "Not... Different from one another, different from how you were back then" he tells the other as he tries to take in deep breaths of the suddenly chilly air. Calm his nerves and this sudden rage.

THEO BECKETT had told him that all that was relevant about his defection was no longer, that he was just as he was before he had left the organization. but did that mean he was absolved of crime? did that mean he had not changed — somehow — intrinsically, even though neither of them could know it?

[break][break] "i suppose not," he surmised after a moment, but was quickly distracted by the sight of CHIEN PAO stirring into existence beside the rocket grunt. "ah."

[break][break] from the other's expression, he could tell that Raziel Beckett could surely feel it. the POWER that coursed through them both.

[break][break] chien pao's attention switched from the human boy to it's play-thing, the bulbasaur that attempted to defend it's master. but the creature of ruin was uneffected, it's deadly eyes gleaming as it bared it's fangs. HATRED oozing, as icy puffs of breath billowed before the grass-type.

[break][break] as though connected, jayden - too - felt the hate that was pulled from both pokemon and master. could feel the hate and resentment and ENVY that was eased out of his childhood friend like poison drawn slowly from a wound.

[break][break] "i can't speak for underboss quinn, but —" he raised his good hand, ice coalescing around his palm until a small dagger appeared. "my bond with chien pao has changed me."

[break][break] "i was weak before."

[break][break] as Raziel Beckett would've known, as Raziel Beckett would've seen, under the relentless influence of his father's crimes.

[break][break] "but i'm strong now."

[break][break] his icy gaze held shards of an unforgiving winter — HATE swirling like a snowstorm beneath the surface.

As the room grew cooler Raziel was just trying to pick apart where this whole interaction went wrong. The hate is there but more than anything he is confused as he looks between both the cat pokemon and Jayden. More so when the older man somehow made a knife with his ice and
for a moment he wonders if he would actually use it on him. Did this anger have more to with Jayden than he realized? [break][break]

His body tenses at the tone used with him and while he still sounds the same there is once again something that is just off with him. "I can see that," he simply comments in some worry wondering if this was why his bulbasaur went on the defensive as it was. Unlike him the bulbasaur
wasn't feeling hate, it was indifferent toward the two, all that concerned him was the orders given to him by his original trainer: protect the boy. And all he was sensing from the two was a threat. [break][break]

"i was weak before, but i'm strong now. you can feel it, can't you, razz?"

"I can..." he answers simply but behind the hate, behind the fear, there is something else. There is worry, this wasn't like the Jayden he knew. "You weren't weak before, not to me at least.... are you... are you okay? With all the hate this thing makes you feel?" he can't help but ask due to that very worry. He was angry with just the few minutes of this being around, he wasn't sure how Jayden would feel with this thing connected to him.

Perhaps the BULBASAUR may not have felt it. HATRED was a like a blackened flower. Without soil and sunlight to help it grow, there would be no reason for it's existence.

[break][break] And yet, perhaps the grass-type would be able to feel the ICE that coalesced from such an endeavor, the way that it manifested such emotions into their brutal reality.

[break][break] 'Are you okay?'

[break][break] The other's concern brought him out of his reverie, and jayden cross blinked. Just like that, in an instant, the icy dagger appeared from his grip and the tired expression from earlier returned. CHIEN PAO, now disinterested in the pair of strangers, had disappeared from Jayden's side to investigate some of the others who were injured within the medbay.

[break][break] Perhaps Jayden himself did not know it, but perhaps Raziel Beckett - even in all his amnesia-related confusion - might. Perhaps Razz would see the way Jayden had changed in the years that Raziel Beckett had been gone. How the fractured remnants of their childhood remained, in those frosted-blue eyes of his.
